New Roosevelt is not a formal organization, but the brand created by activist Bill Samuels to spur progressive change in Albany. First New Roosevelt led the successful charge to oust corrupt Democratic State Senator Pedro Espada, and now Bill challenges some of the policies of Andrew Cuomo, the last Governor of the old Albany culture.

While the winds of change have blown in New York City, they have not reached Albany.

There is no real State-Wide Democratic Party and Governor Cuomo often takes progressive positions only when he is strongly pressured to do so.

New Roosevelt’s symbol for a true State-Wide Progressive Democratic Party is the Blue Tiger, which replaces the old backward Donkey—a mascot created by a Republican to mock us.
